Paradise Floral Evening
- Thank-you
As always the traders and residents
of Emsworth showed their generosity in supporting the “Paradise Lost”
floral demonstration evening arranged by Rosemary Shuker and Linda
Newell at the Brookfield Hotel on Friday 25th February.
About 70 people attended the evening to watch Rosemary create 5
different arrangements based on the theme of “Paradise Lost” and the
subsequent rejuvenation. These were then auctioned for the Khao Lak
Community Appeal.
The traders of Emsworth provided a total of 22 raffle prizes, ranging
from one of the
2004 Emsworth Cook Books, a year’s membership to a fitness club and
various vouchers for goods and services available in the shops of
Emsworth. Especial thanks go to Amanda Thomas and her staff at the
Brookfield Hotel for their support in running the event.
In all a total of £763.00 was delivered to Jenny Yeates to be added to
the growing funds for this unique and touching appeal. Rosemary and
Linda would like to thank all those who donated, attended and supported
them. The kind remarks and compliments received after the event were
much appreciated.
It is hoped there will be other events arranged to help the Appeal reach
its target of £1,000,000.00. A list of all the businesses and
prizewinners is listed here [LINK]

Design Framework Exhibition by Roger Evans Associates (Planning
Consultants)
Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 January Pastoral Centre, Emsworth 10
am to 4 pm
This exhibition will present the results of a study commissioned by
Havant Borough Council to improve the public realm throughout the
Borough. The results of the study will provide long-term design
guidelines for future developments. The exhibition will also give the
consultants' response to the main comments made at the Liveability
Workshop on 6 December 2004.
This workshop was attended by members of the 6 Community Boards. The
Emsworth Community Board was well represented at this workshop. The main
concern for Emsworth expressed at this workshop is the need to do
something about the main underpass/roundabout on the A259 bypass in the
centre of Emsworth. Please come along and make your views known.

Public get first chance to see plans for a greener Borough
RESIDENTS will have a first chance to see plans to make their
neighbourhoods greener and more pleasant next week when Havant Borough
Council hits the road with a new exhibition.
Community Boards have already put their heads together with design
consultants and have come up with ideas to improve areas of the borough.
The Public Realm Design Framework Exhibition will reveal those schemes
to the public for the first time.
The six community boards are made up of residents, including young
people, members of community associations, business people and community
police officers. The boards cover Emsworth, Havant and Bedhampton,
Hayling Island, Leigh Park, Waterlooville North (Cowplain and Hart
Plain) and Waterlooville South (Purbrook and Stakes).
Their ideas for sprucing up their neighbourhoods include tree-lined
avenues and squares with new seating and creative paving, as well
practical measures like moving bus stops, changing parking arrangements
and building new pedestrian crossings.
"This will be residents' first chance to have a look at some of the
ideas that could eventually transform parts of the borough," said Senior
Landscape Architect, Julie Boschi. "And the traveling exhibition will
be spending a couple of days in each different area, giving as many
people as possible the chance to come and see the design ideas."
The ideas are based on a study commissioned by Havant Borough Council
from consultants, Roger Evans Associates, that identified different
types of places, streets and spaces in the borough. The study looked at
both short-term improvements that can be paid for from Havant Borough
Council's £3m Liveability Fund Grant, and medium and long-term changes
that will make life better in the borough.
A series of guidelines - the Public Realm Framework -for sprucing up
parts of the borough will be produced as a result of the study. The
framework establishes the relationship between streets and squares, town
centres and parks and provides common design details for key areas.
The schemes are likely to be considered by the Executive in February. It
is hoped that projects given the go-ahead will be completed by March
2006
